NH Voters Get Chance To Meet Gov. Rick Perry At Party

GREENLAND, N.H. (CBS) - Now that he's officially running for president, Texas Governor Rick Perry planned to travel in New Hampshire on Saturday.

Organizers hoped a party in Greenland for Perry gave voters a chance to meet the candidate Saturday night.

The party really started when House Deputy Speaker Pamela Tucker and other New Hampshire officials flew to Texas to talk to Perry about a White House bid.

"And at that time, I said, 'If you ever want to come up here and you're serious about running for president, I'd be more than happy to host a house party for you.' And much to my surprise, on Monday, I found out that he had accepted," said Tucker.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Mark Katic reports.

So Tucker has been busy getting ready for voters to arrive at her home to meet Perry. Perry is coming to GOP rival Mitt Romney's backyard, but Tucker gives the edge to Perry.

"Gov. Romney is a great man and he did wonderful things, however Gov. Perry is a sitting governor. He has, right now, the record that we need. He knows what it takes in an economic downturn of how to create the environment for jobs. And I think that's why he will be the best candidate for president," said Tucker.
