A 41-year-old woman attending the outing was also seriously injured. She needed to be taken by helicopter to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

Two other people were also injured.

EBSCO Publishing President Tim Collins was at the event. He said, "Our thoughts are with our employees and their families and we are all saddened by this unfortunate incident. Dan Callahan was a fixture on the EBSCO campus, known to most, if not all of our employees and served this company for many years. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time."

EBSCO will provide crisis counseling at its Ipswich campus Saturday for employees.

The crash happened on Argilla Road in the area of Castle Hill and Steep Hill Beach on Crane Estate. The Crane Estate was shut down after the accident.

The driver, a 32-year-old Amesbury man, has not been identified.

The accident remains under investigation.
