Thieves Target Boat Gas At South Shore Marinas

QUINCY (CBS) – Car owners are not the only ones feeling the pinch at the pump.

Boat owners are paying even more per gallon and that's fueling a rise in the number of thefts of gas.

Quincy Police Lieutenant Bob Gillan says they are seeing three to four on-water thefts of boat gas a week.

"People won't report it until maybe a week later when they go to use their boat," Gillan says.

Massachusetts law requires gas tanks be stored above deck, making them an easy target.

Gillan believes other boat owners are stealing the fuel because of its high cost.
