DENNIS (CBS) – Neighbors have won a beach battle on Cape Cod.

The town of Dennis is abandoning plans to build a new parking lot at Mayflower Beach.

The town wanted to buy a plot near the water to build spaces for 75 more cars.

Neighbors complained, saying the beach was already overcrowded.

Currently, there is parking for almost 300 cars, but some say it’s not enough. On weekends and sunny days, the neighborhoods are inundated with illegally parked cars.

The town may now buy a smaller portion of the land to make sure it is not overdeveloped.
