FOXBORO (CBS) – There was a surprise at the Bill Belichick press conference Monday, and it wasn’t just that a Jet was joining the Patriots.

After the coach announced the signings of defensive ends Shaun Ellis and Andre Carter, Belichick also announced the Patriots have re-signed Gerard Warren.

Warren was signed before the 2010 season to provide depth, but ended up starting on the defensive line in place of the injured Ty Warren.

In 16 games, Warren contributed with 3.5 sacks and 28 tackles.
