PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (CBS) – A Maine mother allegedly left her 6-month-old baby in a 117-degree car while she went shopping in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on Saturday morning.

Police charged 32-year-old Renee Ramsey with child endangerment. They believe she left the baby locked inside the car for about 15 minutes.

Officers broke open the car’s window and brought the baby to their air-conditioned cruiser. Ramsey then returned to her car about 13 minutes after that, or nearly a half hour after she originally left the baby.

The baby was then taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital to be checked out, and was then released to the care of the father.

The outside temperature that day in Portsmouth was about 81 degrees at the time.

Ramsey, meanwhile, was released on bail. She is scheduled to be arraigned on Aug. 24 in Portsmouth District Court.

This self centered idiot needed a license to drive to the mall, but not one to have a child. Doubtful she’d have passed that test!!!!

I can’t imagine what was more important than her baby but she should shop until SHE drops.

So, her shopping trip was more important than caring for her INFANT CHILD????

    -shakes his head in disbelief-

This is just sick. There is no excuse to leave a 6 month old in the car alone, nevermind in the heat of the summer. What could her explanation possibly be? They should lock her in a hot car with all the windows rolled up…
    Disgusting…

Lets lock her into a hot box truck and leave her for 1/2 hour….. then deny her medical care ….she is so undeserving of any care…. Hoe the husband divorses her and takes that baby far away…..

Please don’t call her a “Mom”. She should be addressed as “Moron leaves baby in car”. Judging by some of the stories that have been coming out of N.H. lately, some of these nitwits are taking the motto “LIve Free or Die” much too seriously.

i am not sure. it is a major butt pain to wake a baby when you have to just run in and grab a carton of milk and a bag of bread. 30 minutes does seem a bit too long given that it was a sunny, hot day, but i can understand a busy and tired mother’s not wanting to awaken a sleeping baby.

and how do they know it was 117 degrees? did they have a thermometer handy?

i just don’t know about this situation. she shouldn’t have done it but she could also have been exhausted with a new baby and needed to get some errands done and her judgement clouded.

mandy, if this infant had died, do you think a judge would have just said, oh well, let her go, she just had a lapse of judgment? I don’t need a thermometer to tell me if it’s too hot in my car just sitting in the sun. I would wake my baby before leaving it in a car no matter what the weather conditions.

Mandy, most cards are equipped with a thermostat which displays both external and internal temp of the vehicle. This woman was a neglectful parent and there is no excuse for her actions! If she needed a break that bad… get a babysitter.
