Some residents of Dennis say the town should buy this property, and create more parking for Mayflower Beach.
DENNIS (CBS) – Mayflower Beach in Dennis is one of the mid-Cape’s most popular. Even on a cloudy day, there are large crowds.
There is parking for almost 300 cars, but some say it’s not enough. On weekends and sunny days, the neighborhoods are inundated with illegally parked cars.
Bruce Richardson lives across the street from the beach. The land, across from his home is for sale and some in Dennis say the town should buy it, and turn the dunes into a parking lot.
WBZ-TV’s Bill Shields reports
Neighbors say it would make the area less safe.
“There’s no way for the runners, the walkers, the people pushing baby carriages the people on bikes to co-exist with at least 100 extra cars,” says Richardson.
There’s a town meeting Tuesday concerning the property, but some residents say it’s time to draw a line in the sand, literally.
