Pine Street Inn, HopeFound Explore Merger

BOSTON (CBS) - Two Boston agencies with a combined 67 years of fighting homelessness through housing and programs are hoping to combine in every way.

The Pine Street Inn hopes to merge with hopeFound.

Both organizations share the same goal: to help the down and out, the drug addicted and the homeless.

"We're at the point where we think strategically it makes a lot of sense," says hopeFound executive director Mary Nee.

Nee says the Pine Street Inn has extensive housing and job training, while hopeFound does job placement and treats addiction.

"We're not looking at this per se as this big cost efficiency," says Nee. "We're looking to preserve programs, but to really make them more effectively coordinated."

Nee hopes the board of director's of both agencies will vote on the proposed merger sometime this fall.
