Boston Launches Effort Aimed At Finding Missing People With Special Needs

BOSTON (CBS) - The city of Boston is launching a new program that will help track down lost children and adults with special needs.

The North Star Personal Alert Program allows families to register with Boston police.

The families provide information on the child or adult who could wander away and is unable to communicate.

Police will maintain a database of those people and will be able to access that information quickly in an emergency.

Boston police say the Program is geared toward, but not limited to children with Autism/Autistic Spectrum Disorders and individuals with Alzheimer's disease.

Boston police will hold registration drives across the city to help get families signed up.
