Report: Patriots Get Haynesworth From Redskins For Draft Pick

BOSTON (CBS) – The New England Patriots have reportedly acquired troubled veteran defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth from the Washington Redskins.

The Pats have traded a 2013 fifth-round draft choice for Haynesworth, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Haynesworth, who's listed at 6-foot-6 and 335-pounds, played 7 years with the Tennessee Titans and then signed a $100 million deal with the Redskins. He then had two lousy years there (he played in just 20 games) and was frequently at odds with 'Skins head coach Mike Shanahan, who wanted to make Haynesworth the nose tackle in a 3-4 defensive scheme, something that Haynesworth was uncomfortable with.

Pats coach Bill Belichick brought up Haynesworth in his opening remarks to the media Thursday morning.

"I talked to Mike Shanahan last night and we're in the process of acquiring [Albert] Haynesworth, but that's not complete yet, so I can't really comment on that at this point until it's completed – if it does get completed," Belichick said.

Belichick dodged further questions that specifically mentioned the 30-year-old Haynesworth.
