Massachusetts Responsible For More Than Half The Nation's Job Growth In June

BOSTON (CBS) - June turned out to be an impressive month for job growth in Massachusetts.

Nationally, companies added a total of 18,000 jobs. An astounding 57% of those new job gains came from Massachusetts.

The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development said on Thursday the state added 10,400 jobs in June.

Governor Patrick credits a strategy to boost education and attract innovation.

The June job gains contrast a loss of 4,100 jobs statewide in May.

Overall, the unemployment rate in Massachusetts held steady at 7.6 percent, well below the national unemployment rate of 9.2 percent.
