Police: 'Backstreet Bandit' Arrested After Standoff In Revere

REVERE, Mass. (AP) -- A five-hour standoff in Revere has ended with the explosion of stun grenades and the arrest of a man suspected by authorities of being a bank robber dubbed the Backstreet Bandit.

Police say Rolando Gala was taken into custody just after 9 p.m. on Tuesday after he was found hiding in the attic of the home.

The standoff started after officers attempted to serve Gala a warrant for allegedly robbing a Malden bank in June. Gala allegedly refused to cooperate and stayed in the home.

Gala was turned over to Malden police and is expected to be arraigned Wednesday.

Authorities suspect Gala of being the Backstreet Bandit, so called because the robber wears a fedora and button-down shirts reminiscent of the clothing worn by 1990s boy band, the Backstreet Boys.
