Toucher & Rich: Gabe Kapler On The All-Star Game's Roster
Former Red Sox outfielder Gabe Kapler spoke with Toucher & Rich about his thoughts on the All-Star Game, the home run derby and Derek Jeter's 3,000th hit.
Is the attention paid to Jeter's 3,000th hit unprecedented?
"It is unprecedented, but for good reason. One of the things that I'd like to bring up is the fact that this guy has never said a bad word in the media, he's never done anything wrong, he's got nothing but praise and accolades for everything that he's done and there's a reason for that. He's a great guy," Kapler said of the Yankee slugger.
They also talked about the fact that he's skipping the All-Star Game because he's tired and exhausted after his race for 3,000.
They then moved on to talk about this year's All-Star roster and the amount of players declining the invites. Is the All-Star Game becoming like the Pro Bowl where it's not cool to go to the game anymore?
"I don't know if it's becoming the Pro Bowl because it is right smack dab in the middle of the season. The All-Star Game is in my opinion the jewel of the leagues' exhibition games in term of versus the NBA and NHL. In my opinion guys still get excited," were Kapler's thoughts on the All-Star Game.
They talked about the length of the home run derby, did Kapler make it all three hours? The guys also took some time to talk about the guy that gave Jeter back his 3,000th hit ball and the guys speculate that he could have at least got 100,000 dollars for the ball. What does Gabe think of the guy's decision to give the ball back and not try and get money for it?
