Mass. Woman Wins Mt. Washington Cycling Race

PINKHAM NOTCH, N.H. (CBS/AP) -- She was the favorite, and for the fifth time in as many tries, 48-year-old Marti Shea of Marblehead, Mass. took the top spot in Newton's Revenge bike race up Mount Washington.

Shea finished the grueling race up the steep Mount Washington Auto Road in 1 hour, 4 minutes, 12 seconds.

She pushed her bike across a foggy finish line after the wind blew her over on the final turn.

Shea still managed to ride her best-ever time for the nearly 8-mile course.

On the men's side, a 36-year-old triathlete from New York won on his first try.

Dereck Treadwell of Laurens, N.Y.,out-pedaled a bunch of race veterans in 57 minutes, 41 seconds.

About 140 bicyclists took part in the race.

Mount Washington is the highest peak in the Northeast at 6,288
feet.
