The driver, 64-year-old Gusdavo Perez Espinoza of Sylmar, Calif., and his passenger, 37-year-old Ruben Hernandez of Carson, Calif., received treatment for minor injuries.

The highway was closed for several hours and traffic to the Rhode Island border was detoured for the cleanup and inspection of the overpass.

One lane of traffic was opened by 7 a.m.

"The left two lanes on Route 295 north will remain closed for an extended period of time, due to extensive guardrail damage and fuel spill in the median," State Police said in a statement.
