Who sang the Star Spangled Banner during the fireworks display in Boston ? – Bill, Plainville

That was Staff Sergeant Tracy Lacbrecque of the U.S. Army Field Band and Soldiers Chorus.  Lacbrecque is a native of Houston who earned a degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music before joining the Soldiers Chorus.

The Boston Pops celebration is absolutely fantastic. But who pays for it? – Muriel, New Salem

The concert and fireworks show are organized by Boston 4 Celebrations, a foundation launched by David Mugar, who came up with the idea for the Pops show back in 1973.  For the last 7 years, Liberty Mutual has been the main sponsor of the show.  WBZ-TV picks up some of the costs, with a rights fee paid to the Pops.

I just wanted to thank you for your spectacular coverage of the Boston Pop’s & the fireworks.  Job well done!  – Jean, S. Boston

You’re welcome.  It was a fun night for all of us from BZ who worked.

Now I’m curious…what did you think of the show, and is there anything that could use improving?

  1. Jr Varsity says:

The Star Spangled Banner was an amazing performance by Staff Sergeant Tracy Lacbrecque – She was a true professional. Compared to the botched jobs by celebrity singers at the Superbowl and other events, this version was superb! Also, Martina McBride did a great job on short notice, especially with God Bless America.
