MBTA Tells Passengers At Three Stops They're Better Off Walking
BOSTON/CAMBRIDGE (CBS) - The MBTA is kicking off a new campaign to get people to stop using public transportation… at least between two particular stops. Instead, the 'T' is telling people to walk instead.
The T has posted signs in North Station telling people they're better off walking from North Station to Lechmere during the current construction project.
Shuttle buses are running between the stops, but with traffic and wait-times, it can actually take double the time it takes to walk.
Google Maps estimates the walk takes 22 minutes; the MBTA puts it at 15.
Science Park and Lechmere stations will stay closed until November.
The signs explain that commuters can enjoy landmarks, parks, and history along the way.
The landmarks on the MBTA's list include the statue of Bruins legend Bobby Orr, the West End Museum, the Nashua Street Park and the Charles River.
