STOW (CBS) – The Fourth of July and fireworks go hand-in-hand, and fire officials say you should leave the shows to the professionals.
At an event in Stow on Thursday, State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan showed some of the most common injuries to the hands and face when untrained people use fireworks.
Each year, hundreds of people go to the emergency room and some are killed in fireworks accidents.

Coan also slammed a current proposal in the House to legalize fireworks in Massachusetts.
“The cost and burden to public safety, the increased visits to emergency rooms and life-changing injuries will offset any potential revenue associated with the sale of fireworks in the Commonwealth,” said Coan.
Massachusetts is one of only four states ( with bans on fireworks by unlicensed professionals.
