Vigil Planned For Falmouth Soldier Killed In Iraq

FALMOUTH (CBS) - A family in Falmouth is mourning the loss of their young hero.

Army Corporal Matthew Gallagher, who was just 22 years old, was killed in northern Iraq.

A beach-side vigil was planned for Corporal Gallagher on Wednesday night at 7:30 pm at Old Silver Beach.

There were initial reports that Gallagher may have been gunned down during a house-to-house sweep, but an Army news release classified his death as "a non-combat related incident" that is still being investigated.

Gallagher was to celebrate his 23rd birthday next Tuesday and he was due to come home on leave July 15th.

He leaves behind a wife, who's also 22 years old.
