BOSTON (CBS) – Whitey Bulger’s girlfriend Catherine Greig has hired an attorney and has dropped her request for a court-appointed counsel.

Brockton defense attorney Kevin Reddington was retained as Greig’s lawyer Sunday. He formally notified the court Monday.

Greig and Bulger had asked for a public defender at hearings in U.S. District Court Friday. Federal prosecutors objected to both requests.

Greig will be back in court Thursday afternoon for a detention hearing.

She’s being held at the Wyatt Detention Facility in Central Falls, Rhode Island.
