Keller @ Large: Robert DeLeo On Whitey Bulger, State Budget, Casino Gambling

BOSTON (CBS) - Whitey Bulger's capture isn't the only big local news story percolating.

Our $30 billion-plus state budget is nearing completion with the potential for major reforms in the way we fund local government, health care for state employees, and even casino gambling is up in the air.

WBZ's Jon Keller is at large with House Speaker Robert DeLeo.

Robert DeLeo was in the state legislature while Whitey Bulger was still in business in the early 90's. Did he fear then-senate president Billy Bulger because of his gangster brother?

Part 1:

"I was just a first-term state representative," said DeLeo. "I can't say at that point that I was a…I was just a blip in the screen to the senate president. As far as I was concerned, he was always very cordial, very nice, and I have to also say that he was a very, very bright man."

Part 2:

On Friday, Gov. Deval Patrick was quoted as saying he was disappointed that the House and Senate hadn't agreed on the state budget yet. Does he have reason to be disappointed? House Speaker DeLeo didn't think so.

"I think we've been working diligently to get it done. I am hopeful," said DeLeo. "I think we're making some very, very good progress."
