Sharks Take BU's Matthew Nieto In 2nd Round Of NHL Draft
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- The San Jose Sharks have drafted Boston University forward Matthew Nieto with their second-round pick.
The pick of Nieto on Saturday was San Jose's first in this year's draft.
The Sharks had traded their first-round pick to Minnesota in a package for All-Star defenseman Brent Burns.
Nieto grew up in Long Beach, Calif., before leaving for prep school.
He had eight goals and 13 assists as a freshman in college this past season.
He previously had helped the United States win back-to-back gold medals in the Under-18 world championships.
San Jose also took defenseman Justin Sefton in the third round and traded a fourth-round pick to Winnipeg for selections in the fifth and seventh rounds.
