Gresh & Zo With Stephen Gostkowski: Our Job Is To Come Into Camp, In Shape

BOSTON (CBS) - New England Patriots Kicker Stephen Gostkowski joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Gresh & Zo on Wednesday, and is getting antsy for some football.

"I'm actually getting tired of reading about it," Gostkowski said of the NFL Lockout. "It's giving me a headache."

Although there can be no team-mandated workouts, he is confident his teammates are getting ready the best they can for when football finally returns.

"I'm sure everyone is getting their job done, because when this thing is done if you're not in shape, ready to go, your job is not going to be sitting there waiting for you," he said. "This is our job to be ready to go, and if we're not ready there is going to be someone else that is."

Gostkowski is currently in Tennessee rehabbing his torn right quad that caused him to miss eight games in 2010 and two playoff games.

"I'm as close to 100 as I would be right now," the Pats kicker said. "I've been kicking and kicking really well. It's a slow progression, but I've been adding on every week."

While he has been training on his own, he misses being able to practice with his teammates and even a few things he used to cringe at in the past.

"It's crazy how some of the things you dread in the past, you miss it so much when you don't have the option to do it like mini camps, OTAs and workouts," said Gostkowski.

"Camp is to build that football shape and be ready for games. As long as we start training camp on time hopefully things will work out and you won't see too many injuries," he said. "The bottom line is we can't afford to miss games. I think the owners and (DeMaurice) Smith are going to do their best job to get something done and it looks like we're going in a positive direction. We can only just hope for the best."
