BOSTON (CBS) – Love steak, gooey cheese and a hearty stew? Our Fresh Grocer Tony Tantillo with a great recipe that pulls all the things you love together…Steak Pizzaiola!
1 lb. skirt steak
16 oz. tomato sauce
2 green bell peppers
1/2 lb. white mushrooms
7 oz. fresh mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup chopped Italian parsley
1/2 cup olive oil
3 cloves garlic
2 rosemary twigs
2 1/2 oz. fresh oregano
I. Sear the steak
Cut steak into 4-inch strips, and season with salt and pepper.
Place on grill with whole rosemary twigs lying on top.
Brown meat on both sides and set aside.
II. Prepare pizzaiola sauce
Heat olive oil in a separate pan, then add chopped peppers, sliced mushrooms, and diced garlic.
Saute for 4 to 5 minutes, then add steak slices.
Cook together for another 3 to 5 minutes.
Add tomato sauce, cover, and simmer 15 to 30 minutes, until meat is tender.
III. Prepare the topping
Add fresh oregano, chopped parsley, and mozzarella.
Serve once the cheese has fully melted.
