Son Of Mom Accused In NH Killing, 'Asked Her Why & She Broke Down'

DOVER, NH (CBS) - A mother accused of killing her six-year-old son and dumping him along a road in Maine received a visit in her jail cell from her oldest son on Tuesday.

It was a moment Ian McCrery never imagined he'd have; sitting in front of his mother, Julianne McCrery, asking her how she could kill his little brother.

Ian, who serves in the Navy, talked about coming face to face with his mom.

"I asked her why and she broke down and asked me not to. It's my mom so I'm not going to, you know what I mean?" McCrery told WBZ-TV's Jonathan Elias.

The body of 6 year old Camden Hughes was found in May in rural Maine. It took several days before police were able to identify him.

Ian also talked about his initial reaction to the news that his mom had been charged with murder.

It was surreal. It didn't feel real, didn't want it to be real," he said about the news that his mother had been charged. "This stuff happening in Maine or New Hampshire, I didn't want to believe it, but it was."

Ian says he's relieved he got to see his mom, but he left with the question of why unanswered.
