MASHPEE (CBS) – The U.S. Coast Guard planned to search through the night for a young man off the coast of Cape Cod.
A Good Samaritan called the Coast Guard around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday saying he saw a 17-foot boat driving in circles with no one on board near Popponesset Island.
“We received a report the 21-year-old man had left from a marina in Waquoit Bay to take the boat to Popponesset Island. He left around 8:30 this morning and has not arrived where he was supposed to be taking the boat,” Petty Officer Connie Terrell told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.
WBZ-TV’s Diana Perez reports
Terrell said it takes about one hour to make the trip.
Mashpee fire and police are helping with the search.
The man’s name has not been released.
