BOSTON (CBS) — With Father’s Day coming up on Sunday, Dan Andelman of the Phantom Gourmet shows us what a lot of dads are looking for: great barbecue.
Popular items at the Southern-style Blackstop Barbecue in Winthrop Center include the pit smoked chicken wings, meaty ribs with a tongue-tingling sauce, juicy sliced beef brisket and cayenne-crusted mac and cheese.
At Larry J’s House of Q in Chelsea, chef/owner Larry Jimerson offers up everything from Southern-fried pickles and fresh-baked corn bread to barbecue baked potatoes and slabs served naked so you can sauce them yourself.
“Barbecue is Americana,” Jimerson says. “It’s like baseball and apple pie.”
Next weekend, you can sample ribs from the top grilling teams from Texas, Virginia and Australia at the the Phantom Gourmet Barbecue Beach Party on Boston’s City Hall Plaza. Tickets are just $5 in advance and $10 at the door.
