Zdeno Chara Shaves Off Playoff Beard

BOSTON (CBS) - After the Super Bowl players on the winning team yell, "I'm going to Disney World!"

Well, at least one Bruin was yelling "I'm going to the barber!" Thursday morning, hours after winning the Stanley Cup.

"It's been so long that I think everyone wants to get it off," Captain Zdeno Chara said of his two-and-a-half month old beard.

Chara had his thick, itchy beard shaved off at a barber shop in Boston, shortly after the team returned to the Garden.

All of the players grew beards as a playoff tradition, but they don't need them any more.

"It's just a ritual you do for playoffs," said Chara. "I'm hoping that I'll look okay after."

We'll see how many of the Bruins show up for Saturday's parade with clean-shaven faces.

Chara said he did not get any sleep after the B's won the Cup, instead celebrating with his teammates all night.

"The excitement is overruling the tiredness," he said. "I'm sure in a few days it's going to hit me."

Chara is still unsure what he will do with the Stanley Cup when he gets his day with it over the summer. He called being the first one to hoist it over his head Wednesday night "a dream come true," and is proud to be the Captain of the 2011 Champion Bruins.

"It's a huge honor and I'm very humble to be able to be in that position, to raise it first," he said. "It's something you dream of and you always want to achieve. It's an unbelievable feeling."

CBSBoston.com will carry the Bruins Stanley Cup Championship Parade live Saturday at 11 a.m.
