Fighter Jets Over Plymouth County? Just A Military Drill

BOSTON (CBS) – Fighter jets were seen flying over parts of Plymouth County Wednesday morning, prompting several calls from people wondering what was going on.

It was just a drill.

FAA spokeswoman Arlene Salac told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 and WBZ-TV the flights were a military exercise out of Barnes Air National Guard Base in Westfield. It began around 10 a.m.

Several people called both stations and local police stations wondering why F-15 jets were flying over towns like Middleboro and Plymouth.

One person posted video of a jet over Middleboro on YouTube.

and they were circling that plane why?

Exercise. Thanks for the heads-up Barnes. Typical lack of communication. Why not exercise over the ocean. Was on rte44 and almost got crushed by a rubberneck driver.

  • yearight

they were clearly trying to stop a plane. i call shannigans.

  • Jean

A DRILL! Thanks for never telling us folks over here by the nuke plant as we were kissing our arses goodbye!

Unless I am mistaken, we don’t conduct low level flying exercises at that location, because of the civilian population nearby. It is a violation of what used to be our rules and regulations for conducting live exercises. FYI: I used to fly one of those.

I am wondering , were there helicopters involved, There was a very big black helicopter in the Weymouth area yesterday, Near the Old airbase. It was flying very low, and fast. I wonder if they where joining the ones in Plymouth.. Or coming back from there.

Not buying the “just-a-military-drill” story for one second, especially where they were so close to the Nuclear Power Plant in Plymouth.

I Agree It Scared the Hell out of My Children I do not Buy It was just a drill i watched them circle that Plane as well

I first saw the two F-15’s over the home Depot in Taunton. They circled above several times, then moved to the southeast, where both jets circled an object in the sky. I couldn’t make out what the object was, but as it moved southeast. the fighters followed it. I don’t think this was any kind of “drill”. I spoke with an ex marine who said they do not do that sort of flying over populated areas.

Just looking to see what’s for on sale at Home Depot.

  • FooFighter

Just chasing off a UFO that was hanging around the power plant, no big deal.

  • George L.

UFO’s, commies, whatever, get a life. Practice over the ocean? C’mon people whatever the reason they’re watching your back, grow up.
Time was people used to get excited about seeing our military, now there’s so much paranoia, it’s a problem?

Go Air Force and thank you for your service….You can circle my house any time and I’ll send you salutes and kisses.

It’s nothing I’d ever seen before, not over land, and not circling around a smaller airplane. And unless the power plant was moved to Middleboro, I can’t imagine that it had much to do with it.

Who knows if it was a drill, with a small plane as part of the exercise. I do know they’ve been training for security around the power plant recently (different branches of the service involved), so this may well have something to do with that. It could well be that they were practicing for a possible scenario of a hostile small aircraft attack on the power plant. It would make sense. It would also make sense not to publicize such an exercise.

It did frighten me quite a bit, though, as it was such an unusual event.

Why does it have to be anything other than an exercise? Calm down.

    • get over it

Becauuse, if they didn’t believe otherwise then all the conspiracy theorists would have nothing to talk about. A mind is a terrible thing to waste!

  • Bruce

If you read the newspapers it was announced a couple of days ago that the exercise was going to be held. And circling was part of the training. They don’t alway go in straight lines you know.

  • Cinque

Haven’t some of these yokels ever seen a jet before? What happens when the Blue Angels come up every year, do these people hide in the basement when they hear the noise?

    • Benzmum

Come live in Virginia it’s a part of every day life. U should spend your time talking about the awesome bruins, sox and how we’ve forgiven Brady and crew for that horrible january day…
