Boston Start-Up Unveils iPhone Beer App
BOSTON (CBS) - A Boston-based start-up company is toasting the launch of BrewGene, an iPhone app designed to help beer drinkers find brews they like.
Developed by Brew Genome LLC, BrewGene has been available to iPhone users since the winter, but Tuesday marked the company's first publicity for the service.
Lisa van der Pool of the Boston Business Journal reports
In a news release, founder John Muggeridge said he hoped to deliver a service for beer-drinkers similar to the many music-recommendation services that already exist.
BrewGene invites users to contribute ratings, and based on those contributions identifies new beers they may like.
The company's database can hold its liquor.
According to the news release, the BrewGene back-end contains information on 40,000 brews from 4,000 breweries.
