A service was held for Groton Marine William Woitowicz on Tuesday.
GROTON (AP) — The small town of Groton is paying final respects to a local Marine killed in Afghanistan.
A wake for Cpl. William Woitowicz is scheduled for Wednesday at St. Catherine’s Church in Westford. A funeral mass is scheduled for Thursday morning at the same church.
The Pentagon said the 23-year-old Woitowicz was killed last week after suffering multiple traumatic injuries from small arms fire in Badghis Province.
He joined the Marines shortly after his 2007 graduation from Groton-Dunstable High School, where he played basketball.

He is survived by his parents, a brother and a sister.
Woitowicz was assigned to 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion, Marine Special Operations Regiment, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
