Keller @ Large: Rep. Cusack Incident Not The First Statehouse Romance

BOSTON (CBS) - The alleged incident involving Rep. Mark Cusack is far from the first Statehouse romance.

Beacon Hill is a place where the art of politics sometimes shares space with the art of love.

If anyone ever said that lawmaking and lovemaking can't co-exist, chances are they never hung out at the Statehouse during a late-night session.

Statehouse reporter Matt Murphy, who broke the Cusack story, said it's not unusual for romance to blossom among the many young singles who work long hours in close quarters up here.

And for some, believe it or not, the trappings of power seem to act as an aphrodisiac of sorts.

It's a far cry from the bad old days when prostitutes sometimes entertained legislators during late-night sessions.

But, the Statehouse is a place of many secrets, and love, if you can call it that, is one of them.

House Speaker Robert DeLeo said from now on he'll keep the private entrance to the House chamber from his office locked. But, the Statehouse has many rooms.
