BOSTON (CBS) – Yes, it’s hot out, wicked hot. They said we might break the all-time record for this date, and I believe it.

And I’m sure that if you’re elderly or ill or stuck working in a hot place, it’s a very uncomfortable situation.

No one should take conditions like this lightly and risk their health.

But having said that, for the vast majority of us, today’s stifling heat is absolutely no cause for complaint.

Can we possibly have forgotten what we lived through last winter?

Let me refresh your memory, and pose a few simple questions that might put any discomfort from the heat into proper perspective:

Listen to Jon’s commentary:

What would you rather be doing today, suffering in an inadequately- or un-air conditioned MBTA vehicle, or freezing to death on a commuter rail platform waiting for a train that may or may not complete its route within 24 hours?

Edge: heat.

It’s no fun perspiring through your shirt on the walk to work, I know, but would you rather be risking frostbite instead?

Edge: heat.

Tonight may be a tough night for sleeping, granted, and the kids may be restless in school today, but I’ll take a little tossing and turning over the insomnia induced by worry about what you’re going to do with the kids if tomorrow is another snow day.

Edge: heat.

It’s a drag drinking 12 gallons of water to stay hydrated and having to slather up with sunscreen, true. Would you rather be shoveling?

Case closed.

Sorry, skiers and skaters.

For my money, winter in New England is moments of beauty surrounded by months of torture.

Give me a wicked hot day anytime.

And besides, you get the best hockey games in summer, wouldn’t you say?

No matter what the weather is in New England, people will complain.

  2. Larry says:

Wrong. I like it cold. When it is cold you can dress to be warm. When it is HOT, you can get naked and still be hot. When it is HOT you cannot do anything. When it is cold, you can just add a layer, problem solved.

  3. BostonIrish says:

I prefer it to be hot. The house, the car and my work has AC. And I don’t have to shovel heat.

    1. Dianne says:

I am with you. You can’t grow flowers and veggies in the snow…

  4. confused says:

Who’s complaining? Everyone I know keeps saying “thank God the warm weather is here”…

emom, me too! I’m not a summer person, but don’t like extreme cold either. I think that’s the magic word…..extreme. Whatever happened to weather in the 70’s and dry? New Englander’s will always complain when the weather goes from one extreme to another.

      1. emom says:

WILLOW yup the mild weather temps in the 70’s , slight breeze, puffy white clouds slowly floating by as you lay on the ground and try and guess what shape they are…. A gently spring rain with the sun still shining to the side of it.. Birds chirping their wonderful songs. and Butterflies fluttering by. OH the grass feels so good under bare feet… is a wonderful day….. WAIT DARN THAT WAS A DREAM OF MY CHILDHOOD… Yeah this weather is like walking into a furnace,,, If I wanted to be this hot and melting I would be COOKING over an open pit of flaming coals… Spring and fall early fall are my favorite seasons. I don’t mind the other two seasons, BUT I draw the line with over 6 feet of snow to move, Tons of ice, gee if I wanted that much Ice I would have gone to the ice rink. And all the rain I feel Like I should be expecting and arc and a bunch of animals on it.. Even the ducks seem to hate all the rain;. Birds Hide from the heat . IS THERE A DROP OF WATER IN THE HOUSE…… CAN ANYONE SPARE SOME ICE….. DARN ITS MELTED NOW…… where are the puffy white clouds,,,, wait I think I see a bunny rabbit hopping over a bunch of wild flowers,,, oh so pretty…………………. HEY I can dream cant I …

  6. Andrea says:

Love snowshoeing, beaching, and leaf peeping. We’ve got the best of all four seasons here… enjoy them!

  7. Bill Ball says:

As a nightly viewer of BZ news it’s bad enough that I have tosuffer the constant weather up- dates from your over dratic weather personnel but, this evening’s coverage of a thunder storm was simply over the top. Did it ever occur to your news director that most viewers have experienced storms with thunder & lightning in the past.

Get a life and stop over doing nothing and concentate on the news.

    1. Willow says:

You can always change the channel or turn your TV off. I think Todd did a great job with the forecast and by providing such in some cases can save a life. Keep up the great job Todd.

  8. barry says:
