MEMA To Help Coordinate Tornado Donation And Volunteer Efforts

FRAMINGHAM (CBS) - With countless donations headed to tornado-ravaged areas in Massachusetts, the United Way of Tri-County and the Federal Emergency Management Agency's National Donation Management System are now helping coordinate the relief effort.

MEMA announced the two agencies will offer guidance to individuals and organizations looking to donate or volunteer in the aftermath of the June 1 tornado.

"Ironically, donated goods and volunteers that are not specifically needed in a disaster area can hurt more than help," said MEMA Director Kurt Schwartz.

Those wishing to donate money to the victims can contribute to the Massachusetts Statewide Disaster Relief Fund.

Members of the public interested in volunteering or wishing to donate products and equipment are encouraged use the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Donation's Management System.

Anyone with questions regarding volunteering or donating can call 2-1-1.
