Cannons Midfielder Paul Rabil Named MLL Offensive Player Of The Week

BOSTON (CBS) - Midfielder Paul Rabil was named the Week 3 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Offensive Player of the Week in a league announced Monday.

In leading the Cannons (2-1) to a 17-13 victory over the Chesapeake Bayhawks (2-1) on Saturday night, Rabil scored five goals and added two assists for seven points.

Rabil's performance matched his MLL career high in points and goals. His only other five-goal performance came on July 23, 2009 in a 15-18 loss to the Toronto Nationals, in which he also added two assists for his first seven-point game. He tallied seven points twice in the 2010 season, first on June 12 in a win over Denver (three goals, one two-point goal, three assists) and then on July 10 in a 15-9 win over Chesapeake (four goals, one two-point goal, 1 assist).

After playing in two of three 2011 games, Rabil is second on the Cannons and tied for third in the league with 11 points scored this season on six goals and five assists. Teammate Max Quinzani leads the team and league in scoring with nine goals and four assists for 13 points in three games.

The Denver Outlaws earned the other two weekly honors, with goalie Jesse Schwartzman named Defensive Player of the Week and Billy Bitter taking home Rookie of the Week honors.

The Cannons finish their home stand this Saturday, June 11 at 6pm against the Long Island Lizards at Harvard Stadium.

Information from a Boston Cannons press release was used in this report.
