West Springfield Mom Dies Protecting Daughter In Bath Tub During Tornado
WEST SPRINGFIELD (CBS/AP) - A West Springfield woman was killed when her roof caved in while she was protecting her daughter in their bathtub during Wednesday's tornado outbreak.
Angelica Guerrero was covering the 15-year-old with her own body when the house came down on top of them, West Springfield Police Chief Thomas Burke said. Guerrero was crushed. The girl, meanwhile, suffered severe leg lacerations.
The Guerrero family lived on the first floor of an apartment building that was flattened during the tornado outbreak.
Angelica's other daughter Fabiola, who was at work during the storms, said her mom lived for her children.
WBZ-TV's Kathy Curran reports.
"She always used to say 'It's always you two first, and I'd die for either one of you,'" said Fabiola.
Guererro's husband was also hurt. Fabiola said her dad was doing "fine" when she visited him at the hospital. Both the daughter and husband remained hospitalized on Thursday.
