12-Year-Old Swimmer Missing, Her Brother Rescued Off Hampton Beach

HAMPTON, N.H. (CBS) -- Crews are looking for a 12-year-old who was swimming off Hampton Beach in New Hampshire when she and her older brother got swept out to sea by a rip current.

The girl's brother, who is 20, was rescued, but his condition is unknown. Neither he nor his sister have been identified.

The Coast Guard says it got the call around 8 p.m. The lifeguards had left for the day, but someone on the beach saw the two having trouble. Someone on the beach went in and was able to help the brother out, but was not able to rescue the sister.

WBZ-TV's Christina Hager reports.

Crews are using boats and a helicopter to look for the girl. They say they have an idea where she was last seen and are able to follow the current to search where she may be.

The Coast Guard described the sea as calm and the water temperature was 55 degrees.
