BOSTON (CBS) – When it comes to politicians, it’s not always what they say that counts.

WBZ’s Jon Keller spoke to body language expert Don Khoury about the body language of politicians and what it can mean.

It matters little as to what an “expert on body language” tells us. The fact remains that politicians are much like acrobats in that they keep their balance by saying exactly the opposite of what they actually do. Since they never truly believe what they articulate to the rest of us, they are usually surprised when others express belief.

I’ll try again since first post didn’t go thru. I am not sure whether politicians make empty promises or people don’t listen. Obama ran on the promise of healthcare reform. The majority elected him. He reformed health care. People were not happy. Go figure

    1. dismayed says:

You call that reform? What he needed to do is lower health care costs. Now all we’re doing is paying more to cover the cost of people who can’t afford insurance. I think Obama’s “reform” needs reforning.

      1. The Owl says:

The Administration is saying that we can keep the health care plans we have and costs will go down.

Well, in 2011, our health care plan was canceled because of the new legislation and it cost 35% more to replace it with a plan that was less than 80% of the coverage previously offered.

There’s a reason why people are unhappy. A very GOOD reason.

  3. Tsal says:

As far as body language it is huge. Part of my job is to watch the audience during my buisiness partners presentation to know their response so he can improve and target presentations. Body language is as important and in some cases more important than the words behind it.

  4. dismayed says:

It isn’t “body” movement we should be as concerned with as much as “mouth” movement. You can’t believe a thing that comes out of it.

Awwwww, come on, politicians don’t lie.

LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE… Why does he have to have that smurk of a smile every time he opens his mouth.. Dont trust him at all.

  7. tsal says:

I think an insurance company that cancels by saying there is something in the new regulations may be using it to control more of us. And there is no provision for rising costs because there is no competition. Who didn’t want competition (e.g., the government option – key word there folks is option)? Not Obama – that’s a hint.

There are things in the new health care that need improvement. Perhaps if the conservatives had actually worked WITH Obama instead of deliberately trying to undermine any form of health care reform, it might have been a better plan.

  8. tsal says:

Dismayed – we were paying for all of the people before when they went to doctors and didn’t have insurance. You have to know that they were not paying for themselves. The problem with that system is because they did not have insurance they waited until things escalated instead of preventing a problem and that costs more.

    1. dismayed says:

tsal, I agree and I did know that, but I also know that people who have other’s paying their bills use the ER as a doctor’s office. What part of call the doctor and make an appt. like everyone else don’t these folks understand. And, why is it my responsibility to pay bills for others healthcare when I have enough of my own to pay?

      1. tsal says:

Statistically, people with health care coverage will go to the doctor preventatively because they know it’s covered. Also statistically those without health care wait until the last minute when things have gotten worse and after preventive care would have cut the bill significantly. There will always be those who wait until the last minute. I don’t think we can form a health care plan around the exceptions. With most health care plans, you have to have a PCP and once that person is assigned there is a greater chance you will use him/her rather than the ED.

The bottom line is that those without health care can and do incur bills that are in the tens of thousands and since they are also from the lower income groups cannot pay the bills.

Many of those that are in the emergency room for non emergency reasons, DO INDEED have insurance. These same folks believe that since they DO HAVE insurance that they don’t care about if its a true emergency or not… They say they are not paying for it so they don’t care,,, The FACTS ARE, we do pay for these non emergency visits thru our premiums. For everyone WITH insurance that uses the hospitals emergency room as their doctors office it not only costs others higher premiums but also clogs up vital space for TRUE EMEMRGENCIES… FACT is a larger number of Insured folks abuse the use of the emergency rooms. Since when is a stubbed toe, splinter , vomiting only a few times, a slight cough, a fever not over 101, twisted ankle, hang nail, headache that is not blinding, ear ache, black eye, tooth ache that is not constant, bumps , bruises, strains, sprains, carpel tunnel, and many other NON emergency conditions.. Fact is many folks SHOULD always call their PRIMARY DOCTOR, they are on call 24 hours a day, and if their answering service cant reach them usually there is back up, Not all emergency visits are non insured.. After seeing bills for years I have seen many that Where insured over using the emergency rooms.. A total waste of time.

  11. ENUFF says:

Look at his arrogant expression. I bet he’s saying “You heard me, free health care and in-state tuition for all illegal aliens”.
