BOSTON (AP) – A German-born man who claimed to be a member of the famous Rockefeller family has agreed to return to California to face a murder charge in a 1985 killing.

Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter is serving a four- to five-year sentence in Massachusetts for a 2009 conviction in the kidnapping of his 7-year-old daughter.

In March, he was charged in the killing of Jonathan Sohus, who mysteriously disappeared with his wife in 1985. Gerhartsreiter was
living in a guest house on property owned by Sohus’ mother in San Marino, Calif.

Boston lawyer Jeffrey Denner said Gerhartsreiter denies any role in Sohus’ death, and hopes to resolve the case and get on with his
life.

Gerhartsreiter came to the United States in the 1970s and assumed many identities, including Clark Rockefeller, a supposed relative of the wealthy family.
