SAUGUS (CBS) – A smokey fire forced a shutdown of a Saugus highway on Sunday.
The one-alarm blaze broke out at around 11:30 a.m. at the site of the old Atlantic Lobster Company on Route 107.
The building had been abandoned after a fire last year.
The stubborn fire sent heavy smoke across the road, forcing a temporary closure because drivers just couldn’t see.
“It was mainly just this back section, they were using it for storage. We really haven’t gotten close to see what the contents were, but it looked like trash tires, old storage tanks,” said Capt. Chris Rizza of the Saugus Fire Department.
Saugus fire officials said what was left of the building is now a total loss.
