Passenger Tries To Open Exit During Flight To Boston From Orlando

BOSTON (CBS) -- A passenger on board a flight from Orlando to Boston tried to open an exit door midflight, a spokesperson for Logan Airport said Tuesday night.

Delta said on its Twitter account that it was an off-duty police officer who subdued the passenger. In a statement, the TSA says it was two other passengers who subdued the suspect.

WBZ-TV's Ken MacLeod talked with passengers who were sitting nearby who said the man was very drunk and fiddling with the emergency exit, which set off an alarm.

State police were waiting at the gate for the passenger. Once the plane landed safely one man was taken into custody and charged with interfering with a flight crew. Authorities say the man may face additional charges.

WBZ-TV's Ken MacLeod reports.

There were 149 passengers and five crew members on board.

It is unknown why the person tried to open the exit.

This is the second time a passenger's tried to open an emergency door in flight this week. On Sunday, a man on a Continental flight from Houston to Chicago tried to open a door and was tackled by other passengers.
