Part Of Mass Pike In Newton Closed For Hours For Truck Fire, Fuel Spill
NEWTON (CBS) -- A portion of the Mass Pike was closed for much of the day Monday because of a tractor-trailer diesel spill and fire.
The westbound side of the Route 16 interchange in Newton was closed at 10:45 a.m. when the truck fire started. About 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled when the truck's gas tanks ruptured during the fire.
Crews worked until 4:30 p.m. cleaning up the spilled fuel.
The driver, a 37-year-old man from New York City, was not injured. The truck is registered to Abilene Motor Express of Richmond, Virginia.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
