Matt Worster at his arraignment on Thursday.
EASTON (CBS) – Easton and State Police found the body of a missing mother, 42-year-old Beth Spartichino, in the backyard of her home on Union Street Thursday afternoon.
Her son, 17-year-old Matthew Worster, is accused of shooting her to death and burying her body. He was arraigned Thursday on charges of armed assault with intent to murder. Those charges were expected to be upgraded to murder once an autopsy is completed.
WBZ-TV’s Peg Rusconi reports.
Easton Police Chief Alan Krajcek said the search began Wednesday evening after they responded to a 911 call. Worster was arrested a short time later.
Prosecutors say Worster left a cryptic message on his father’s voice mail shortly after the killing saying he had done something that needed to be done.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030′s Mark Katic reports
The property is described as a compound. Spartichino’s ex-husband lives in one home and Spartichino in another.
One neighbor wouldn’t identify himself but told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 the family has lived there for a long time and there was never any sign of trouble.
However, a longtime friend of the teen told WBZ-TV there was a lot of trouble in Worster’s home.
Worster was a student at Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School, but he recently dropped out.
