Lawrence Couple Caught In Crossfire, Home Hit By Several Bullets
LAWRENCE (CBS) - Paula Johnson was enjoying a quiet Tuesday night with her husband when she heard a noise.
"It sounded like an explosion," said Paula Johnson. "We thought they were fireworks."
But then her husband Steven Johnson realized the sounds were gunshots.

"He said 'get down!'" said Paula. Steven saw a small white or grey car leave the scene and he and Paula ran down into the basement and called 911.
When they came back up they got a better look at one of the bullet holes in their kitchen window. Steven had been doing dishes there just before the shooting. On the side of the house they found five more holes. Paula had just taken the trash out in that area.

"I just feel that we were lucky and it's like a miracle that my husband didn't get hit or me," said Paula.
The couple has lived in their Lawrence home for twelve years without any trouble.
Police say evidence shows that two different guns were involved in the shooting. Detectives believe the Johnson home was caught in some kind of crossfire.
"We'd had an earlier report of a fight in that location. We had responded to the neighborhood," said John Romero, Lawrence Police Chief. "We didn't find a fight and we're wondering if there is a connection to that earlier incident."
Paula's thankful her family wasn't the target. She says fixing her home will be easy, but she may never repair her sense of peace.
"I used to love coming home from a day's work and rest," said Paula. "I can't relax anymore."
