Current Bruins Share History With 2004 Red Sox

BOSTON (CBS) - I love sports for many reasons, but one of them is history. Here in Boston teams can't hide from it and most want to embrace it.

The 2003-04 Boston Red Sox were one of those teams.

After losing in heartbreaking fashion in Game 7 of the ALCS to the Yankees in New York, the Red Sox changed their history a year later. I will never forget walking into that locker room in Yankee Stadium after the Aaron Boone walk-off home run in 2003. David Ortiz was lying down on the floor, in full uniform, just staring down. Nobody moved for a full 15 minutes until Tim Wakefield came over to his locker and addressed the media, showing the strong person that he is.

A day later Theo Epstein strongly argued that his team and franchise were not "cursed" and he was proven right the very next season. The team was able to add key players such as Curt Schilling, Keith Foulke, and Orlando Cabrera and met the Yankees again in the ALCS. And, we all know that they pulled of one of the greatest comebacks in sports history.

I feel like this current edition of the Boston Bruins is going through the same thing.

They fall to a Philadelphia Flyers team in 2010 in heartbreaking fashion. Up 3-0 in the series and 3-0 in Game 7, they get beat. Stunning.

The next season they add some key players such as Nathan Horton, Rich Peverley, and Greg Campbell and try yo reverse their fate.

They top their hated rival in the first round and now they get the same team that caused their pain a year earlier.

They also go up three games to none in this season on those Flyers and are on the brink of erasing those demons.

Will they? You have to believe they will. They seem destined to do this. They haven't run away. They've met each challenge head-on and battled.

We are on the brink. I know Bruins fans are uneasy. Don't be. This team, this group... will get it done. Have faith and patience.

The day is coming...
