Cracked Tank Window Closes New England Aquarium For Day

BOSTON (AP) -- The New England Aquarium in Boston has been closed to the public for one day so crews can repair a cracked window in the facility's signature central ocean tank.

One of the region's most popular destinations with 1.3 million visitors per year, the aquarium closed Thursday and was expected to open as normal on Friday.

Vice President of Marketing Jane Wolfson says a crack was discovered in a single pane of one the of the tanks' 60 triple-paned windows.

The crack was in a window on the top level of the 23-feet deep, 200,000-gallon tank and the water level was lowered to allow for repairs.

Wolfson says no water leaked, and no people or sea creatures were hurt.
