Haverhill Overpass Dedicated To State Trooper Killed In Line Of Duty

HAVERHILL (CBS) – There’s now a lasting memorial to a State Trooper who lost his life in the line of duty.

A highway overpass on Route 495 in Haverhill has been renamed in honor of Captain Rick Cashin.

State Police Capt. Richard Cashin was killed in the line of duty in 2010.

Cashin was killed in a crash in January of 2009. He was chasing an erratic driver when his cruiser slammed into a snow bank.

Fellow officers say it’s a fitting tribute to a man who patrolled that area every day.

“Those of us who knew Rick will never forget the kind of man and State Trooper he was. Captain Cashin was a great Trooper, fully dedicated to his job and to his family,” said State Police Superintendent, Col. Marian McGovern.

Cashin was a 28-year veteran of the Massachusetts State Police.
