Billerica Boy Must Wait An Extra Day For Dad To Return From War

BILLERICA (CBS) - A little boy from Billerica is getting ready for a very big welcome home tonight.

Mark Robinson's father, First Staff Sgt Kevin Robinson, has been serving in Iraq for the past year as part of the 94th Military Police Company. He was supposed to arrive home with his unit in Manchester, New Hampshire last night.

WBZ-TV's Karen Anderson reports

But as Mark and his brother and Mom were getting ready for the homecoming, they got the call that Sgt Robinson had to stay in Fort Dix, NJ so doctors could check out his back.

Mark's mom Donna says she and the boys tried to be strong, but were all filled with sadness. They didn't know how long they'd have to wait. Mark, who carries his father's military hat everywhere he goes, said, "I was really sad. It was just a really sad feeing that he wasn't coming home that day."

But, they just got the word the Sgt Robinson will be granted a four day leave, and should arrive in Billerica at midnight. What will Mark do when he sees his Dad? He'll give him "a hug. And I'll probably cry."
