MANCHESTER, N.H. (CBS) — It was a joyous homecoming in Manchester, N.H. for members of the 94th military company as they returned from a year-long deployment in Iraq.

For Norm Vincent it had special significance, as he comes home coming full circle. It was the attacks on September 11th that prompted him to enlist in the army reserves ten years ago, motivated by his first trip to ground zero.

“After 9/11 there was a sense of pride you had as an American that, ‘Yup, we’re going to fix this.’ Enlisting shortly after I said, ‘I’m going to be a part of this,’” he said.

WBZ-TV’s Beth Germano reports.

He became an integral part of the War on Terror, and now as he returns home feeling his mission was accomplished, the war’s mastermind Osama bin Laden is taken out, and he hopes it silences the critics.

“We have a job to do and we did it. By this coming to a head like it did we put closure on it and they realize we were right,” he said.

It was a sacrifice not only for himself, but his wife Amanda. They also have seven-year-old twin boys and a four-year-old girl, and this was a year of missing milestones. “They sound different, like little men now,” he said.

Vincent’s group’s job was to train Iraqi police, including the country’s first SWAT team. He believes the unit has left behind a more stable force that will help end the American commitment.

And while he just wants to focus on the little things at home now, he believes the big picture has definitely changed.

“I think the end is near. They’re going to do great things in Iraq, they already have,” he said.

FYI…. Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11. Bin Laden’s responsible for that.

We attacked Iraq because we’re nothiing but a bunch of bullies! Bin Laden’s not the “mastermind ” of that war. Bush is! Bin Laden had NOTHING to do with that war. These are 2 unrelated occurences. I find iit preposterous that Vincent didn’t know that.

Alexa, please get your facts straight. Hussein was the bully and he was (and Iraq, to some degree, still is) harboring al qeada. That’s why we invaded Iraq. Let me ask you this. If you or a loved one were being ‘bullied/mugged’ on the street corner would you rather have all walk by and ignore this or would you like someone to step forward to help protect you from the bully(ies)? My impression is that if no one stepped forward you’d be the first to be complaining about it.

Thank you Vincent for your service to help protect us and the world from bullies such as Hussein and OBL! May God Bless you and your family!

Are you ever STUPID!!! Get YOUR facts straight!
We attacked Iraq because they supposedly had WMDs…It had nothing to do with Hussein being a bully(most dictators are) or the Al qaeda being there. That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.
Anyways, even though the weapons’ inspectors had been over there several times and didn’t find WMDs, Bush insisted that they were there. The weapons’ inspectors asked Bush to give them one more chance to go and prove that there were no WMDs before Bush attacked them but Bush said NO. As Tony Blair admitted in his new book..he said that he and Bush agreed to be in cahoots and LIE so they could go and attack Iraq (pretending that they knew that Iraq had WMDs.)
That’s what the war in Iraq was about. And as far as soldiers signing up to fight in that war..shame on them!!! That country did absolutlly nothing to us.
