Gardening With Gutner: Picking The Right Mulch

BOSTON (CBS) - This week Gardening with Gutner traveled up to Westford to visit a doctor.

Well, he's not really a doctor, but when it comes to mulch, nobody knows more!

Dave Canney, otherwise known as Dr. Mulch, shows us that there are several choices when it comes to picking out just the right mulch for you and your yard.

The most popular choice continues to be Hemlock.

This is the reddish mulch that you see in so many yards. It has a very nice smell to it and accents gardens beautifully.

Dave also carries a couple of mulches that are not so widely known, but can be very useful. Black Bark is a natural decomposed bark mulch that is processed through a fine screen, black when wet, dark chocolate brown when dry.

Mad Mics Organic Mulch has a base ingredient of horse bedding (wood shavings) from local horse farms.

Other ingredients included in the product are manure, hay, grain, grasses, leaves, other organic material.

Visit his store in Westford or his web site for more information.
